Founder, Jonathan Foote, graduated from Yale University School of Architecture in 1964 and practiced for more than fifteen years in New Haven, Connecticut, where he worked with major institutional and commercial clients. Paul Bertelli joined Jonathan Foote in 1979 when Jonathan moved his architectural practice to Livingston, Montana. At JLF & Associates we focus on innovative design solutions through our “process”. We are pioneers in the use of reclaimed materials, the origins of which come from our work with restorations of classic ranch projects throughout the region. We continue to do restorations and unique works influenced by those historic values. We employ old-world craftsmanship in our structures and, in the process, glorify their place in the landscape. Throughout our work, we demonstrate an appreciation of history, a love of the West, and an understanding of how buildings become one with the land.

JLF & Associates takes on about ten residential, recreational or commercial projects per year across the country. JLF & Associates works with each client to design a structure that meets their needs, expresses their individuality and finds a life of its own. The firm employs twenty-five architects, design associates and support staff, all of whom work together as a team to oversee the day-to-day management of projects.

Our work has been featured in many national publications including Architectural Digest, Big Sky Journal, Cowboys and Indians, Veranda, and Western Interiors and Design. We have received awards from local, regional and national chapters of the American Institute of Architects and Historic Preservation Associates.
